Save Taix — Every Demolition Permit Is Blocked
Taix French Restaurant (1911 W Sunset Blvd, Echo Park, Los Angeles) — a 99-year-old LA landmark — is scheduled to close March 29, 2026 ahead of planned demolition. But demolition cannot legally begin. Every demolition and sign removal permit at this address has unresolved historic monument clearances in the City's own LADBS database.
Key Facts
- Taix is Historic-Cultural Monument No. 1227
- ALL demolition permits show "Permit Issued: No"
- "Historic monument" and "City Hist. Cultural Monument" clearances are NOT CLEARED on every demolition and sign removal permit

- The Cultural Heritage Commission can object and trigger a stay of 180-360 days

Our Position
We support housing AND preservation. The LA Conservancy proposed keeping the historic building while building housing on the parking lot. This alternative was abandoned for political convenience, not necessity. We are asking the City to enforce its own rules.
